Sail Date: Jul 2015
Cabin: Balcony

I sailed on the July 8, 2015 Royal Princess doing the British Isles (including Paris). Generally speaking, this was a good cruise as Princess usually is. However, I can tell you that having a cabin directly mid-ship is mildly irritating. There is no central stairwell for midship cabins other than for the life boat drill. The mid-ship stairwell is used for crew and is closed off to guests otherwise. Given that some major public spaces are

directly off the midship elevators, the wait can be annoying. Also, problematic is that the signature terrace pool is missing on the ship (but was added back on to the Regal Princess).

This ship is of a size where more people than on the other Princess ships are packed together. Architects did not do a very good plan of traffic flow from one part of the ship to another. There is no 'promenade' on the Promenade deck. I prefer other Princess ships that have the complete wrap around down on this deck. The jogging track has been jammed up on deck 17 for probably about 1/3 of the size of the typical promenade.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BV

As for the cabins, I had an obstructed view (E 439) which sits directly above the smallest life boat just one deck below. The view was O.K., but once again, the life boats were placed between deck 7 & 8 so that most of the balcony stateroom are obstructed. Not really a very good view if situated just above one of the larger life boats. As far as the balcony staterooms go, the balconies were cramped and smaller than most other cruises /cruise lines on which I have sailed. It seems that the architects were scrimping on cabins in deference to larger public spaces (with the intent purpose of revenue), and with the exception being the Princess Theater which was smaller than other ships (Grand / Golden). The showers were outfitted with the standard dreaded shower curtain. The bedspreads I believe, were noted to be duvets. These duvets were rather heavy and did not have a sheet separating them from the fitted sheets.

Port Reviews

Greenock (Glasgow)

In Glasgow, we did the Easy Scottish Lochs. The views on this trip were incredible. And once again, only a half day trip.
