Sail Date: Jun 2015

This was my 7th cruise and my husband's 3rd and our 3rd cruise together!

Prior to this cruise, we had never sailed out of Southampton, nor been on a P&O cruise or been to Norway so there were a lot of firsts!

We travel on our own and we are in our late 40's.

Cabin Review

Cabin Superior Deluxe

Loved it - loved the design and the space. Ok the balcony wasn't huge but it was sufficient for 2 people.

Bed - super comfortable.

Loads of storage space.

No fighting with a shower curtain - result!

1 design fault - pop a plug next to a mirror so that the hairdryer in the room can be used properly!

Great to have champagne and chocolates included with the price as a nice extra along with an umbrella and binos to use on the cruise - both great for the Fjords.

Port Reviews

Southampton

We enjoyed our time in Southampton - lots of places to eat out and there was plenty of history all over the city centre which was very interesting and great use of old buildings restored for new purposes. Great to arrive for a night's stay ahead of the cruise so get on board more relaxed. The Holiday Inn is close to all the cruise terminals and a very convenient stay.

Bergen

Bergen is very scenic especially when the clouds lift! We docked in the commercial port area and had to take a complimentary shuttle bus where we were dropped off in the city centre. It's a walkable city and very pleasant. Good amount of shopping and places to eat and see. We went to the excellent Tourist Info centre and got tickets for the funicular and spent some time up Mount Floien - which was even better when the clouds lifted!

Norway can be expensive to eat out in so check prices very carefully! Snack foods were tasty and reasonably priced!

Flam

Again we went DIY! Purchased the Flam train ride on line before we went and just turned up to do the train ride with the confirmation form - very easy!

I would actually do the train ride twice as you need to go up and down once to take in the views and scenery and then do it all again to take photos and don't forget to get out of the train at the waterfall although you will get wet!

The ship docks 5 minutes walk from the station. Flam is small and everything is in one place - plus the scenery is amazing! Get up early and watch the sail in and don't forget the sail out is also spectacular!

This day was one of the highlights of the cruise :)

Stavanger

We weren't really sure what to do in Stavanger -we were toying with the idea to go on a cruise to see the Pulpit Rock or to go across to the Botanical Gardens - in the end we did nothing but stroll about and very pleasant it was too!

It did help that the weather was lovely and it also helps that the cruise ships dock in the city centre - we had a pleasant time strolling around the ships between the wharf area and the Petroleum Museum and then we came back and had a stroll in between the wooden houses of the old town area of Gamle Stavanger - it was good to have a relatively low key day!
