As regular cruisers we wanted to take an early opportunity to try this new ship and we were not disappointed. I had been disturbed to read a few of the reviews of early cruises on Britannia on this forum and whilst some of the harsher critics are entitled to make their contribution I do think they must be very hard to please. I would support the view that there is, at times, a difficulty with the lifts but a little tolerance resolved most issues.

Embarkation was quick and efficient. The itinerary was well planned with great welcomes especially in Liverpool where we also received a firework display on departure. The trips were a nice mixture to please all and were well organised. My wife enjoyed the Cookery Club with the added treat of cooking with James Martin and Mary Berry who gave copious amounts of time to the passengers. P & O dining has always been our favourite and this was no exception; freedom dining is superbly run and the Horizon grill is good. The Beech House is fabulous and Sindu was enjoyable. We found Epicurean overrated and expensive although the service was excellent. Lunch in the Glass is also a nice alternative venue.

The balcony cabin was well appointed and the TV provided comprehensive coverage. Overall the ship has been superbly crafted, yes it is large but we never felt that we were overcrowded. The entertainment was good especially the regular dancers and singers and the effects are stunning; we particularly enjoyed Jimmy James.
