This was my first experience sailing with HA. As a travel professional, I have the opportunity to sail and know many ships. This one was a total disaster.
The passenger mix was pretty old and activities were geared to that. I spent a lot of time in the gym and went to lectures there which were always followed by a sales pitch for some product or other that the contracted gym/spa company on board was trying to sell. NOT!
Showroom at Sea was also really boring. Two singers, and 2 dancers sang all the standard old songs from the 50's/60's and on. They changed their costumes but the singing was nothing to write home about and again...songs slanted toward the older crowd. The only place to dance were some of the bars, which also were playing either classical music (always crowded with old people) and another that again...played the oldies. There were two other bars that were ok, but were so crowded there was never a place to sit. The Tech classes given in the Tech Center were for people who were beginners ...again for older people who were just dabbling. They also allowed smoking in the Casino, so as there were no machines outside the range of the blue smoke cloud, gambling was out. Shore excursions were mostly bus rides and the ones listed with the 3 hikers which interested me allowed about a 15 minute stop to walk down a walkway and come back to the bus. Another mentioned a mile hike to a waterfall, but the bus didn't stop and we drove by the waterfall.
