Celebrity Millennium (CM) is not Celebrity's newest, biggest, fanciest ship in the fleet. Yes, it's age is revealed in some minor ways (worn upholstery in public areas mainly). Would I go on another cruise on this ship built in the early 2000's? ABSOLUTELY! Some of the reviews seem to suggest mothballing the CM, which is a gross overreaction by some who, like me, have had the good fortune to sail on newer ships (like the Celebrity Eclipse). CM as a ship is still a luxurious experience, which when combined with it's outstanding staff and remarkable cuisine, makes for a cruise very much worth doing.

Embarkation was at Vancouver, and the Canada Place port is a well-organized operation. We stayed at the Delta Suites Vancouver just a couple of blocks from the port, and were very comfortable and pleased with the extremely helpful staff. It's a great place to stay for easy walks to restaurants, shopping and sights in town, and easy to get in & out of by car for lengthier excursions. Vancouver is a fantastic city, and one would be wise to have at least 2 days leading up to cruise departure to enjoy the city. (The lovely Pan Pacific Hotel in Canada Place would be the place to stay if you want to simply go down an elevator to begin the embarkation process, but you will pay for the privilege with high nightly rates.) Regardless of where you stay, be ready for some walking in the Canada Place port, for while it is smooth-running, it is a large facility that will find you walking down long hallway after long hallway as you wind through check-in, luggage drop-off and customs. It is well air conditioned and clean.

Exploring the ship right away gives you a feel for where things are and the best paths to get there. As departure gets closer, make your way to the Oceanview Bar at the back of Deck 10 for a comfortable spot to enjoy the beautiful sail away from Vancouver with easy access to your fave beverage and a great view. Our cabin (7015) turned out to be a fantastic choice for an oceanview room. Close enough to the forward elevators yet far enough away to never once be disturbed by them or the traffic they create, this room was extremely quiet on a deck that was always cool and never crowded. Cruise cabins can be tight quarters, and these are certainly not what you would call large/expansive. One has to maneuver carefully (and almost sideways) around the foot of the bed to get from one side of the room to the other, but it's worth it to have a large bed verging on king-size to sleep comfortably with my spouse. Bathrooms are well-designed and functional, with a good-sized shower (with a hand-held nozzle - yay!) and lots of shelf space for toiletries.
