We sailed 4 – 11 July, first cruise ever. My husband and I went with another couple. My first suggestion...do the meet and greet through Cruise Critic's roll call. We met some of the nicest folks, and it was nice to see friendly faces throughout the week. Big Shout Out to “Host Michell” for doing the grunt work to organize that. Spongebob showed up and did a jiggy dance with the cruise director, JC Sanchez. They also provided a card with key personnel's phone numbers which was nice to have if you needed something taken care of.

Tip: if a crew member asks for your room number, give it to them. They love sending things to your room, and by the end of the cruise, we had definitely eaten our fill of chocolate covered strawberries and canapes. Alvin, the assistant maitre'd spoiled us rotten after a chance meeting at The Flamingo Grill the day we arrived on board – champagne to our table when he saw us in a restaurant, wine and snacks to our room, and always a friendly smile.

Speaking of being spoiled, I would guess that we had the best room steward ever. We were in 9276 and Clark was superman. He made up our room two times a day (when we went to breakfast and when we went to dinner, never put on the make up room light), always had ice in the ice bucket, replaced our beach towels every day, and made the cutest towel animals. To tell you just how awesome he was, I asked for an extra towel so I could have one for my hair. He made sure I had a thin towel for my hair, and fluffy towel for my body just because I asked him if it were possible.

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

The bed was beside the balcony - enjoyed that set up as opposed to our neighbors in 9274 that had the couch near the balcony door. Tons of storage throughout the room, plenty for two, and would have still been adequate for 4 that our room held. For such a new ship, I was surprised that there was a huge indention in the mattress. Superman Clark, the room steward, brought extra pillows and we were just fine.

Port Reviews

Miami

We flew in the day before and stayed at the Crowne Plaza Airport. Not much to do around the hotel and the restaurant was pretty expensive but the hotel room was nice. Shuttle service to port was $10/pp and if you wanted to go early, you were on your own.

When we returned from the cruise, we stayed at the Hilton Downtown. We got there very early because we had to be off the ship by 9, and they were wonderful about preparing our rooms for us to check in early. The hotel was older, but well maintained, and the art deco was tastefully done so it never seemed tacky. We took the (free) train to Bayside Market and enjoyed seeing the sights and listening to local music. Definitely an electric vibe there, and as the concierge told us, it was an experience not to be missed.

We used Uber several times while were in Miami, and we were super impressed that no matter where we were, pick up never took more than 8 minutes, and they were much cheaper than shuttles or taxis. They don't like going to the airport because of all the restrictions, but love that it's an option there.

Tortola

we didn't book an excursion and that was a mistake. There's nothing but construction around the pier, and the wait for a taxi was longer than I was willing to sit there. If you want to enjoy that port call, book an excursion.
