We just finished a 7 day cruise on the Getaway 2 days ago. We visited St. Thomas (Coki Beach), Tortolla (Virgin Gorda Baths :( ), and Nassau Bahamas (Atlantis Beach Break). There was some good and some so- so on this ship; nothing terrible but nothing great either. We enjoyed the cruise a lot but we won't be rushing back to this or any other Norwegian cruise.

The ship is nice. The layout was simple to figure out in the first day or two. We enjoyed that our cruise started with 3 whole days at sea, this allowed us to really enjoy the boat and get comfortable. From beginning (check in) to the end (check out) ALL the staff (bartenders, servers, and room stewards) gave us a lack-luster performance. None of their employee's want to be there. Many of them had attitudes (not specifically towards us but just in general). The service on the boat was the BIGGEST disappointment. It's sad that the best service everyday was in the buffet for breakfast. We ate lunch daily in either Taste, Savor, or O'sheehan's and we never had any memorable service. We ate dinner in the Teppanyaki restaurant the first night (BEST SERVICE of the entire trip and great food), Savor, Tropicana, and the Brazilian Steakhouse (boring). We never felt compelled to tip extra. All the service in the dining rooms was blah. I was surprised and disappointed. I had lunch at the sushi bar one day -dry, bland, and very limited menu ( I asked if they'd make me a Philly Roll and was informed they will not vere away form the short menu).

Our rooms were fine but the room stewads were NOT friendly. My husband and I had a mini-suite (typical balcony room on any other ship) and our room steward was a guy I grew to dislike more and more as the days progressed. He keep the room clean but he wasn't friendly and very strange personality. Our kids had an inside room on deck 5. Their steward was a woman who also had a very bad attitude, found ways to complain, didn't clean the room until late in the evening even though we put the light on to make the room up in the morning, and when we went to breakfast on the last day she was in the room cleaning when we came back to retrieve all of our luggage (dang can we get a minute to eat and leave before you turn the room over?). She was not likable! This was our first cruise EVER we did not tip our room stewards!

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MX

This room is located directly on top of The Grammy experience!! Switch to somewhere else if you plan to sleep before midnight. The music blares from about 9pm to midnight every night of the cruise. It's loud. My suggestion is to switch to another room if you can. Smallest balcony we'd every had in a stateroom. Great bathroom with a nice shower. Bed was firm, too firm for my liking but the sheets and bedding was nice.

Port Reviews

Miami

We arrived at the port at exactly 12noon. It was amazing how many people were outside but we managed to get through everything and onto the boat within 45 minutes

St. Thomas

We took a cab from the port on our own to Coki Beach. The cost was $9 a person each way. We LOVED the crystal clear water at Coki Beach! The locals sold us dog bones and the kids had TONS of fish eating the dog biscuits out of their hands while standing in the shallow water. We rented beach chairs and umbrella's and enjoyed the bar service. It was truly the perfect day!
