To establish a baseline, let me say that I am not a cruise neophyte. I have taken somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty cruises and a few others on RCL so I have a basis of comparison. And this one was almost in the terrible category. And here's why:
First the good: the cabin and the bed withn that cabin was good even though we couldn't get the A/C to blow very hard. Our cabin attendant was equally good. The food in the main dining room was also (mostly) first rate with great service. The ports themselves were also good as was the instrumentalist (entertainer) on one of the nights. That's it for the good.
The bad: the food in the Windjammer was absolutely terrible. Pancakes that were doubling as hockey puks and inconsistency throughout the food offerings. I could have hammered a nail with a couple of bagels. Want smoked salmon in the beginning of the cruise in the Windjammer? No can do. It's against policy and they won't get it for you. It did show up later in the cruise so policy must have changed somewhere in the middle of the South China Sea. Sometimes it was like a treasure hunt to find certain food items like cream cheese, butter or jelly. The cook also should know that hamburgers and hot dogs should NOT be cooked with onions. Some people do not like onions.
