My partner and I sailed on the Eclipse for the 14 day Iceland and Norwegian Fjords Cruise departing from Southampton. Being based in London, the trip to Southampton was very straight forward for us and we walked the approximately 15 minutes to the dock with our luggage. We dropped it off about 11:00, but did not board the ship. We made our way back out and explored Southampton.
Once we boarded the ship we were very impressed. We had sailed on the Millennium before, which we were quite happy with, but Eclipse felt like an upgrade in every way without feeling overly larger than the Millennium. Also having recently come out of dry dock in April, we had high expectations, and they were not let down. Everything was immaculately clean and well maintained.
The only major improvement we could have made was that the weather outside was miserable except for our last day at sea. This meant that everyone stayed inside and during the sea days, this made the ship feel a bit crowded. Several times during the buffet service, it just felt a bit silly. It amazes me how many people still seemed "shocked" on day 14 of how to move through the buffet without becoming a bottle neck.
The cabin was what you would expect it to be, nothing more nothing less. The interactive TV was handy to watch on-demand films and order room service. There is plenty of storage space, especially if you remember to put your luggage under your bed. The room layout is well thought out. The veranda was standard and because of the weather, underused by us.
