Having had some 30 years' cruising experience with some 50 plus trips on most cruise lines it was a pleasure to come finally to the queen of all ships, the QM2, for the first time (I have cruised on QE2 four times). And it was a great cruise. I was in Princess Grill and the service is great, and I enjoy in particular the food. This is good traditional fine-dining with no funny dishes and with a lot of silver service, old-fashioned but great to return to bygone White Grove service in this age when everyone cuts back. I took the first segment of this year's World Cruise and the relaxed itinerary suits me. Although we lost an important port due to circumstances beyond ship's control I was not unhappy. Ship entertainment is good and the ship has a lot of good things you do not find in any other ship. The Queens Room afternoon tea dance is unusual for example, not the kind of canteen tea you find on RCI or Costa, for guests of all grades. The ship is big but absolutely uncrowded and spacious. There is still the midnight buffet and the food range is unusual for midnight snacks: it is a full meal. After 20 days I still feel that I have not seen the ship in full......definitely I seek to return.
Spacious cabin well-laid out, very bright and comfortable. Only improvement required is a curtain that really blacks out.
Easy to navigate to port for embarkation and big enough for sights in a pre-cruise stay.
Great port, much to see in itself...also of course excursion activities such as to Seville.
Good port but could be a security hazard.
Rome is of course 5-star but we berthed at Civitavecchia and far from Rome. Didn't bother to make Rome due to many previous visits and Civitavecchia is no more than a 3-star port.
Great to disembark here after an overnight....much to see.
