Traveled with children

We were a multigenerational family of 5. I traveled with my niece and her 3 children, which included a toddler, a 14 year old and a 16 year old. I researched a great deal before booking and I chose the Breeze which seemed to offer just about everything I was looking for in a fun cruise for the whole family. I have cruised many times and have even sailed around the world. So I guess you could say I'm an experienced cruiser. We stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami for both pre and post cruise. The hotel is just 5 minutes away from the Port of Miami. We got unbelievable bargain prices on Expedia and Travelocity. One night we paid as low as $87.

Embarkation to the Breeze was well-organized. We had FTTF which I give mixed reviews. I would get it again in spite of my assessment. We were told that we would embark after the Premium groups embarked first. That is not exactly true. You also have to wait until all of the other special groups embark like wedding parties, etc. In June, that is a lot of people. FTTF did work well in other ways. We always got priority at Guest Services which was a big help. We also received priority when boarding tenders before disembarking. It is not available when returning to ship. Our cabin was ready when we finally boarded. We dropped our stuff, went to the Lido and had lunch, and took a tour of the ship. When we returned to our cabin our luggage still had not arrived, while we did spot it close by. We just took it off the gurney ourselves.

The Breeze is the biggest ship I have sailed on. The ship is well-maintained. There are a LOT of activities for youth. The 16 year old loved the club for his appropriate age group. The 14 year old did not participate in her designated club group, but did regret it at the end of the cruise. I have mixed feelings about the clubs. While they offered a designated area for youth to hang out, I felt they failed to offer enough structured activities to keep them occupied in positive ways. Like adult clubs, they NEVER close. As late as 4 am you could find 16 year olds hanging out in there. The policy for youth on the Breeze is very loose demonstrated by how much children roam the decks at all hours of the night, getting in to all kinds of mischief. I think it is both the parents and company's fault. I recommend parents very early on establish a curfew policy for their own children. I recommend that the Breeze establish a curfew for underaged sailors or one day they may regret having such a laissez-faire policy. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Breeze and our cruise. The youth policy is the ONLY thing I didn't like.
