Let me begin by saying that we are not seasoned cruisers, but we thought that cruising would be the best way to visit Alaska. We arrived in Seattle a few days early and stayed at Inn at the Market near Pike Street. It's a very nice boutique hotel in a perfect location for all of the Seattle attractions. The city was enjoying a stretch of warm, sunny weather, so the market and downtown areas were crowded with visitors, tourists, and colorful locals. For a city of its size, Seattle seemed really safe and friendly.
We took a cab to the port on Friday morning, arriving about 10:45 AM. We were immediately met by a porter who took our bags. After going through security, we went straight to check-in. The entire process took 5 minutes at most, and we were immediately allowed onto the ship. After a brief look around, we settled into the Concierge Lounge, had a cappuccino, and waited for the Windjammer Buffet to begin serving lunch at 11:30. The food was good--standard buffet fare.
We were allowed into our cabin at 1PM, and it was spotlessly clean and spacious. We soon met our attendant, Rully, and enjoyed our conversation with him. We were in GS 1552 on Deck 10.
Grand Suite 1552 is located close to the Concierge Lounge and is very convenient to the elevators. There was never a noise issue, as the cabin seemed well sound-proofed. As the cabin is located next to the hump, we could see into the balcony of 1554 and vice-versa, but our neighbors were quiet and friendly so that wasn't an issue. The cabin is pretty spacious, and the balcony had a table with two padded chairs and a padded chaise. Our cabin steward, Rully, was efficient, friendly, and unobtrusive. He handled our special requests quickly and was very helpful.
