I sailed the Maasdam from Montreal to Boston on the Canada/New England Cruise in June of 2015. I have sailed one other time with Holland on the Noordam, in addition I have sailed extensively with other lines in the past.

The Maasdam is a lovely, "homey" ship, that is easy to navigate and offered many amenities for its age and size. Overall she is kept up very nicely, however there is some wear and tear, but that is to be expected. Personally I am not big on Holland America's décor, especially on their older ships such as the Maasdam, but her size, layout, and service make up for that.

The service onboard was excellent. Maasdam's crew goes out of their way to make you happy and comfortable. Many even remember you by name. During my stay, the AC went out in my room on the second day of the cruise. By the next day it was fixed. While walking past the reception desk the women who helped me the night before called out my name and asked me how everything was with the AC in my room. At the end of the cruise I was impressed to see the cruise director, Jude Day, along with other department heads standing on the gangway wishing passengers good-bye. In my 35 cruises that was a first and a class act at that.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin FF

My room was cabin 834 on Deck 4. Room was up to date with flat screen TV and DVD player. Room is near to thrusters so you will hear loud noises when docking and departing. The AC stopped working but it was fixed the next day.
