After reading many negative and positive reviews about this NCL cruise I tried to have very little expectations (negative or positive). And this is from the perspective on a 72 yr. old guy.
The facts: Many people said they were nickle-and-dimed to death. The truth is we ended up with 0.53 cents credit at the end. This was after I took out an NCL credit card (do this at least 2 months in advance) that gave me $100 ship-board credit and after our vacation planner gave us $200 per cabin credit. We opted for the balcony cabin which gave us unlimited drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) and we paid for Illusionarium (meal included) and Tepanyaki meal experience before we left. We liked the duck-pin bowling and the free-throw basketball games (extra charge) but still kept under our spending limit. I heard the drinks are free but you pay 18% tip/tax. Not true, we had 4 or 6 drinks every day and they were completely free (just stay below $11 per drink - easy to do).
Don't get me wrong; you can rack up huge charges quite easily (we heard of one unfortunate guy that left with $11,000 in gambling debt). But if you shun the massages and de-tox programs and art auctions and watch sales and jewelry sales and teeth-whitening treatments, and the shiatsu, etc. etc. etc. it's all quite reasonable. If you are in to all those things, go for it!
Interesting place to walk around. Saw the old synagogue and talked to the nice gift-shop lady that gave us the history and what it's like to live on the island. Check out the back streets for some nice pictures.
