Sail Date: Jun 2015
Cabin: Mid-Ship Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window

The Getaway is a gorgeous ship. I called it a "floating Westin" when I first boarded, and after a week, I think it's an apt description. The decor is modern with lots of brown wood and good, tasteful lighting. The ship is still almost brand-new and that's obvious.

I stayed in Cabin 5200, an oceanview with a window. The cabin was spacious. The shower was substantially larger than most cruise showers (though smaller than most land showers!). The window itself was large and deep --- you could sit comfortably up in the windowsill and just watch the waves go by.

This is a loud ship. It's not that I wanted peace and quiet every moment of every day, but there were times I wanted just a small quiet spot to read (other than in my cabin). I naturally assumed that the library would be quiet. The library is beautiful, with good selection, and comfortable seating. But it's directly beneath one of the ship's two arcades. The arcade above the library contains a miniature bowling alley and a large collection of connected basketball shooting games. Any time anybody decided to shoot hoops or bowl (which seemed to happen every five minutes), the library began to sound as though the roof was coming down.

Port Reviews

Tortola

There is NOTHING TO DO in Tortola unless you take an excursion. Glad to see they are building up their pier, but I sincerely doubt they will be able to get it developed "in 2015" as the banners proclaim.

Nassau

Lots to do in Nassau even without an excursion! Taxis are available to Atlantis, and you can walk around in two of the older towers' lobbies (and the casino) without paying anything.

St. Thomas

Plenty to do in St. Thomas, especially shopping. Virgins Haven Bar is right on the pier and offers cheap beer and free (fast!) wifi.
