My first Norwegian cruise and I was on the Norwegian Gem the week of June 21st from NY to Canada. There are a lot of things to discuss with this freestyle system. First, the buffet is boring and seating is woefully inadequate. If you don't get up for breakfast at 7:30 you will sit outside regardless of the weather. Breakfast and lunch is the same every day. Dinner changes on Saturday night.

The shows are good but nothing special except for one act. Duo Vasquett is spectacular. They could be Las Vegas headliners. The singers and dancers are competent but nothing special and the show staging is non existent. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity are miles ahead. The best singer on the ship is the cruise director but you don't find that out until the show on the last night. The activities are plentiful and relaxing. If you want a cruise where your best time is off the ship, stay away from the Halifax nature and Whale watching tour. It's a total ripoff. The boat never stopped. We drove around for two hours and saw some seagulls. I know there are no guarantees but it seems they had no idea where to go. The bus tour at Bay of Fundy was very nice and worth the time. Make sure to save some time to walk around downtown Portland. Much to see and the people are great. Grab lunch at a local place.

I had a mid ship mini suite (11560) and it was nice and comfortable. The problem is it is located under the childrens play area and you hear them running around all day. The casino has a nice variety of everything and the casino staff is great. Basically, this is a make your own fun cruise line.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MB

285 square feet very nicely arranged. The full bathroom is a very nice plus and make everything just a little easier to function. At first sitting the bed feels hard but it is amazingly comfortable and you sleep well. The outside balcony is a nice place for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
