We took a 7 day cruise on the Getaway to St Thomas, Tortola, and the Bahamas. The ship was clean and nice. There were plenty of activities to keep my 11 year old son busy- basketball, soccer, water slides, ropes course, mini golf course, bungee trampoline, etc. That was the biggest perk of this ship. The pool area was VERY crowded. The only time there was room in the pool was very early or very late around dinner time. The smoking area was not ventilated or well enclosed (poor design to not have a window or ventilation system in the smoking enclosure). If you were sitting near the smoking area (which is on the deck right by the main pool), the smoke smell was overwhelming if you were down wind.
The food was just ok. The buffet food was not great (and hard to find a seat at Garden Cafe). The main dining room (Tropicana) always had available seating, but it took forever to get our food. The game shows are held in the Atrium, where seating is limited, and unless you are lucky enough to get a seat right in front of the 'stage,' you can't see everything that is going on because of a low lying ceiling (poor design).
Do not do the Island Beach Break excursion in Tortola- the beach itself is pretty, but the ride there is dangerous (the drivers speed up and down the hills and pass other vehicles by swerving into oncoming traffic). Also, the beach is in the middle of a very bad part of town, next to junk yards that you have to drive by and thru to get to the beach. There were stray dogs on the beach that were injured. It was very sad. Also, Magens Bay is not a very pretty beach as it is described on the shore excursion page.
Our interior room was small as expected, but it was well designed, had tasteful decor, and was very clean when we arrived.
Easy embarkation, beautiful port!!!
