We traveled from Winnipeg Can through Minneapolis the day prior to sailing, which is essential due to travel disruptions at this time of year. We used rewards points to rent a mini-van from Avis and had to pay $ 45 for the insurance. The drive to Cocoa Beach is very easy on the Bee Line Highway for a toll of only $ 1.25. We use rewards points again and stayed at the Best Western Ocean Beach, which was comfortable and included a pool with bar, free parking and a descent continental breakfast. For supper we went to Durango's, that was right beside the Hotel and the meal and service was very good at a reasonable price. After dinner we were just a short walk from the Cocoa Beach Pier that has several restaurants and bars including entertainment.
The next morning we drove to Ron Johns and then dropped the van off at AVIS and took their free shuttle to Pt Canaveral at 1045. After tipping the porter under the signs that state they are salaried and do not tip sign, we began the embarkation process. We had a very short line and with the sign & sail paperwork we were through and on board by 1130, including stops for security and the boarding photos.
The Mariner is a magnificent ship and in very good shape. The main feature is the Royal Promenade, with its shops, Pub, Wine Bar and the almost inclusive Cafe Promenade. We went to windjammers for lunch and I found the food quality and lines comparable to any of the other ships buffets. The only feature that I did not like with the windjammer is that it is fully enclosed and does not open to an outdoor area where you can take your food and eat outside.
The Balcony was a great mid-ship location just forward of the hump with ample space for 2 and just one floor above guest services and the Royal Promenade. The Promanade rooms were smaller and suitable for anyone just don't forget to clothes your drapes or you may become part of the on board entertainment.
