(This write-up ended up much longer than I planned. Short version: this is a great cruise. The Radiance is a fine ship, the crew very helpful, and the Alaskan views are amazing.)

I have to say I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews for the Radiance. My wife and I had a wonderful time both on and off the ship. First, some background. My wife and I have done six cruises now, five RCCL and one Carnival. This is our first Alaska trip, the rest have been in the Caribbean and a 12-day Med cruise on the Serenade (same class as the Radiance).

Started off the trip with a day of sightseeing in Vancouver. Granville Island is a great place to wander around and easily accessible from a city bus. We also did a Harbor Cruise tour which was a neat way to see the Vancouver skyline.

Walked around town and then took a shuttle out to Mendenhall Glacier. Much cheaper than a tour and wasn't on a time schedule.
