We planned this 7 day cruise to Norway about 8 months ago and were happy to be going on Norwegian after a great trip to Alaska with them. This cruise was in the middle of a 3 week Europe trip for us.

The ship itself was fine, but it's one of their smallest and we missed having an enclosed lounge that we could watch the scenery go by. Given that many days of the trip were in the 40-50F sitting out on the sun deck wasn't a great option.

We have no idea what Norwegian was thinking in visiting a Alesund, Norway on Sunday since everything in town was closed. We made do in the beautiful town, but there was nowhere to shop or eat except for one single souvenir shop.

Inside

Cabin IF

The cabin was what we expected on NCL. Our steward did a great job and was always tended to well. I prefer an inside room, especially in the summer in a location like Norway. The sun never really sets so this way it was dark when I wanted to sleep.

Port Reviews

Copenhagen

We loved Copenhagen and spent 3 days there after the cruise before returning home. The only issue that our group commented on is that it seems like EVERYONE smokes there. It was near impossible to get away from smokers and the hacking cough I had for a week after getting home proves it.

The city is quite pretty, old mixed with modern. It is a large metropolitan city and getting around is easy with buses, subways and trains. Lots of different things to do for any type of traveler.

Alesund

We arrived on Sunday and the town was literally closed. Aside from the 2-3 souvenir shops that were open and the one restaurant that was it. It's a beautiful city, but there was nothing to do there. We took the hop-on-off bus because it was pretty much the only thing to do.

We can't understand why NCL didn't change their schedule or order of ports so that they would stop here when it was open. I can't imagine they didn't know the town was going to be closed because it was Sunday. That's just how most of Europe operates.

Geiranger

We were supposed to take an excursion but the forecast was for raining snow and about 45F. We canceled it and naturally it turned out to be a beautiful day for the sea kayaking we were going to do.

Regardless we took a boat that took us around the amazingly beautiful fjord. The town itself was beautiful and is a popular spot for camping and hiking. So if you're interested in getting out and exploring it's a great place.

Bergen

Unfortunately in Bergen the weather was quite poor. The town itself was nice, but it's a bit more of a larger city and wasn't as quaint as the other stops. We visited some nice museums and made the best of the day.

Once again, the scenery getting to the port was spectacular and worth the trip itself.
