This was our second NCL cruise and it will be our last. The first was on Pride of America around Hawaii in 2012. That was a good cruise, this one on the Sun was not even though we stayed in a Penthouse suite. The service was mixed at best, many a time I wanted to cancel out the 18% tip they automatically add to any service. Speaking of add on fees, be aware NCL adds on a $13 to $15 fee per day per person to your bill. Supposedly this is so all the behind the scene service people get tips as well. NCL should just pay them a decent wage and put the cost in the cruise price instead of hiding cruise costs until their passengers are captive.

If the cruise had been better I might have forgiven all the add on costs but the food was terrible in the buffets and marginal in their upscale, pay additional fees for a meal, restaurants. The ship itself was very clean and well kept but it is getting due for a refresh as wear and stains on chairs and carpets are starting to show. The onboard entertainment was mixed, some of the musical groups were amateurish while others were quite good for a cruise ship.

The Sun is trying hard but they can't hide the fact they are trying to make as much money as possible for the least effort. We were subjected to sales pitches at every turn for products, future cruises, food and beverage packages, shore excursions, etc. We started avoiding ship staff to get away from it. We have been home for three weeks and we are still trying get rid of all the spam we are receiving after we signed onto the ship Wi-Fi, they apparently sold our email address. Read more
