We are frequent cruisers and had previously cruised on Celebrity several times, although not recently. We were, frankly, shocked to see how far Celebrity has gone downhill. Celebrity used to have some of the best food at sea. On this cruise the food in the dining room was, at best, mediocre (below Royal Caribbean and Princess and well below Holland America). The food at the buffet was just plain awful. Everyone we met on the cruise felt the same about the food. Clearly this is intentional by Celebrity in order to drive people to their specialty restaurants which were pushed incessantly. Entertainment on this cruise was very poor and far below other cruise lines. Rated the cabin lower because there is so little drawer or cubby space (we had to live out of our suitcases) even though we had a concierge class cabin with a balcony. As has always been the case on every cruise that we have taken, with every cruise line, the staff were efficient and friendly. In this case, however, the line itself has become amazingly grubby. There was constant hawking of specialty restaurants, high priced trinkets (typically 2 or more times the prices that we saw in port for the same things), beverage packages, etc., around the ship with a relatively hard-sell. Walking around the ship, which is nice and well kept, often felt like walking through a South American market where people are constantly pulling you over and trying to sell you something. Although we are higher level Captains club members (not the highest level) on three occasions we were asked to leave a lounge area (different areas) which was then converted for use only by suite guests or Elite Captains club members. First time we ever felt like truly second-class citizens on a cruise ship. We enjoy cruising and the Baltic ports are highly recommended, but do yourself a favor and choose another cruise line.
