I usually write really long and detailed reviews about our cruises but I am simply too annoyed with our experience on the Carnival Sunshine to expend that kind of energy. So, here’s the Cliff’s notes version.
The Good
Embarkation – When we arrived a little after 1 pm, there was a long line outside but it moved quickly. Disembarkation was also pretty smooth.
This balcony cabin was different from what we are used to on other Carnival ships. The bed was pushed up against the wall near the balcony door and window. There was no mini-fridge and only one nightstand. The layout of the bathroom is also different. The door opens in instead of out. A third of the sink area has been removed. The toilet is facing diagonally toward the shower instead of straight forward toward the door. So, for most adults, one foot will be in the shower if you want to sit comfortably. The shower is longer than the balcony cabins on the other ships in this class. But, I would rather have a shorter shower and a toilet that faces forward so I can sit comfortably.
The cabin was noisy. If you are cruising during times of year when there are lots of families with kids traveling, prepare yourself for noises at all hours. There were kids hanging out in the hallway outside our cabin, talking and laughing outside our cabin, running up and down the hallway on our deck and the deck above us. I don't know if this location is any quieter at other times of the year but I did not get one good uninterrupted night's sleep on this cruise.
This was our fourth time in Grand Turk. We've already done the island tour and beach. The island is not impressive in the least and is not on our list of favorites. We walked around the port shopping area for a while and then took a cab to go to the downtown shopping area. This was a serious waste of our time. The area was rundown and the merchandise was all commercialized. There were a few local restaurants there that I did not feel safe eating from.
