Overall we had a positive experience on the Breakaway. We had no problems boarding the ship other than a forty minute wait in line but that should be expected given the number of persons boarding. We found our balcony mini-suite cabin to be comfortable for three. It would be cramped for a family of four as storage space would not be sufficient. The bathroom was large and I would highly recommend booking the mini-suite for a family of 3 or more. Yes, the balcony was smaller than on most other ships but it was sufficient. I would not trade having a mid-ship cabin for a large balcony cabin as those are in the bow of the ship. Not only do you deal with noise from the theater but there is much more movement in the bow of the ship. If you are prone to seasickness consider a cabin elsewhere.

While the ship holds approximately 4,000 passengers, it never really felt cramped. The only issue we had was finding lounge chairs near the pool deck as people would save them with belongings only never to come back to use the chairs. We went to the sun deck and had no problem finding chairs there. It was much more quiet up top than around the pool anyway. The pools were way to crowded to be in so if you are flexible with location you will have no issue with finding a lounge area. We gave high marks to the sports deck. We enjoyed the ropes course but did find it a little unnerving at first. Mini-golf was nicely laid out and many people enjoyed the use of the numerous water slides. The lines never seemed too long.

Now for the services we found less enjoyable. I know people will have different opinions but for us, we found the entertainment to be sub-par. Rock of Ages was a real miss for us. First of all it was way too long. Secondly, it was raunchy. I thought it crossed a line but to each his or her own. Burn the Floor was fair, nothing special. The game shows were enjoyable to watch but we found that it was difficult to find seating to watch the shows in comfort. NCL should think about moving those activities into the theater so more people can attend and have chairs to sit on instead of sitting on the floor near the atrium. The deck parties at night were always the same or at least the same music was played each night.

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

We did not take any shore excursions in Manhattan. We drove from Delaware and instead of coming in through 12th street we went up to 10th street and came in parallel to 12th street until we got to 55th street. We avoided all of the traffic and made record time in getting to the parking lot at the pier.
