This is the first time we have cruised with Celebrity and not sure if we would sail with them again.
The embarkation process was fabulous, no delay, straight on board. Cabin availability was announced about an hour after we boarded. We arrived at Civitavecchia by train, like many others, and was disappointed there was no shuttle bus from the station supplied by the ship which was about a 5 - 10 mins drive but a 25- 30 min walk with cases. There was a bus from the station to the port shuttle (cost involved).
We enjoyed every port of call, but found the shore excursions were far more expensive than they needed to be. We did book 3 excursions with Celebrity (Santorini, Istanbul and Athens) as we had been given on board credit, which covered some of the cost. We were generally satisfied with these, however we found the guide on the Santorini tour a little abrupt and full of his own self importance. We booked with a private tour operator for Naples (we had been handed a leaflet whilst in port at Mykonos) and did virtually the same tour as Celebrity was offering for US$365 and paid 65 euro (+ about 12 euro for entry to Pompeii) with this company. They had 3 coaches of people from this port mostly from our ship). The tour was fantastic and visited Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, Positano and Pompeii. The guide was lighthearted, and knowledgeable.
Bus shuttle to town from ship. What a lovely relaxed and pretty place. We just made our own way walking to the windmills and strolling through the beautiful shop lined tiny streets.
No excursion taken we just sauntered around by ourselves. Shuttle supplied from the ship to town. Lovely scenery, shop lined tiny streets and very relaxed atmosphere.
