This was my fourth cruise (3 on Norwegian and 1 on Royal Caribbean). This was my first cruise to Alaska and it was absolutely wonderful. We had great weather to enjoy our excursions (highly recommend the Yukon Scenic Drive in Skagway). We stayed at a pre-cruise hotel and had a quick and easy transfer to the pier. Embarkation seemed like a long process and was a little confusing since passengers for two different cruise ships were quite close together. The Sun is an older ship and that reflects in the Stardust Lounge and the Dazzles area; seating in both of those areas needs to be changed. The entertainment however was excellent! The organization in the photo gallery needs to be updated. We have been on cruises where all of your photos are placed in a folder according to your cabin number - much easier to work with! The food I would rate as good, but fairly average. We ate in the Garden Café for breakfast and lunch every day and alternated between the two main dining rooms for dinner. The omelet stations in the Garden Café are excellent. The docks are short and very close to the downtown area of the ports, so walking around in the ports is very accessible. We had an easy disembarkation and a very scenic train ride (4 hours) to Anchorage.
My mom and I had a handicapped accessible stateroom and enjoyed the extra space which that provided. I was not impressed with the bathroom - it seems that we always managed to flood the floor whenever we took a shower, no matter how careful we were
Glacier Bay was amazing. The captain was able to turn the ship around several times for everyone to get a good view of the glacier. The reflection of the glacier and snow capped mountains in the water was beautiful. It was a nice, sunny day with no fog.
We stayed in a pre-cruise hotel (Holiday Inn Airport). If you don't have a car, you are pretty much limited to the restaurant at the hotel or McDonald's across the parking lot. Both are adequate. Transportation to the pier the next morning went very smoothly.
