My husband and I have been on many cruises and this was our sixth time to Alaska. Our fifth cruise to Alaska. One of the times was an independent driving trip of mostly the Kenai Peninsula. I particularly love going to Alaska for the awe-inspiringly beautiful scenery.

This 10 night round trip Vancouver trip went to Sitka, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Ketchikan, Tracy Arm Fjord and Victoria.

Blu - We enjoyed eating in Blu for its ambiance and being a quieter experience than the MDR. We had no problem with availability in Blu like a previous poster wrote. We did eat dinner every night on the ship. Blu opened at 5 :45 and we would get there between 5:30 to 6:00 pm so our party of 4 had the best chances of getting a window table. We preferred eating dinner earlier so not going to bed so full. We are also older (in our 60's) and did not party till all hours. The maitre 'd and the hostess in Blu were very delightful and extremely helpful in all ways and helpful too in helping us with customizing our meals. Our waiter, Elias and assistant waiter, Yashmanee, were excellent. One night we didn't eat in Blu because we preferred the menu in the main dining room. The menus are not the same. Our service in Select dining was also very good. Blu is supposed to be a more healthy dining venue but we missed some of the items presented in the main dining room that is why we also ate there. Prime Rib was not offered in Blu but was in the MDR. It is quieter eating in Blu than the hustle bustle of the MDR but the food for dinner is really no big deal better than the MDR.

Cabin Review

Aqua Class

Cabin A1

We were in Aqua Class, Cabin 1117 on deck 11. We very much enjoyed the location of the deck 11 Aqua class cabins. There was absolutely no sewage smell at any time like previous posters have mentioned regarding the deck 9 Aqua class cabins. I would only choose Aqua class again if the price was right being not a whole lot more than a regular balcony. But I did love the larger roomy shower in our cabin being not so narrow. Loved the shower head.

Loved the location of the deck 11 cabins. Great to have the door at the end of the ship where you could go down the steps so you could easily get to the Sunset bar and and watch the gorgeous sunsets off the back of the ship. Cabin was clean and well maintained by our cabin steward, Peter. My husband appreciates ice always kept for his use and Peter kept it full. Convenient also to Blu as it was just straight down below us and the buffet was just one deck below.

Port Reviews

Vancouver

We always love visiting Vancouver. We love the downtown area, the harbor and English Bay. The area is just so scenic. Driving through the downtown area can be filled with lots of traffic though.

Icy Strait

Enjoyed going for a hike along the coast and through the small forest near the shore. Beautiful. Went to the small town of Hoonah and looked through the gift shops near the dock.

Skagway

Since we had taken the Whitepass railroad and shuttle excursion to Emerald Lake before, we decided to just hang out in town. If you haven't done that, it is totally worth it. Just gorgeous trip! Wanted to walk to cemetery but it was farther than expected so had a good time shopping in town and having lunch. Do not waste your money going to the Klondike gold fields. Not worth it. The city bus goes out there but they charge you $15.00 just to walk around through the place. The bus operators later told us they were not aware of that.

Juneau

Our group of 4 rented a car as we like doing our own thing. We drove to Mendenhall glacier and walked to the waterfall. That is beautiful and totally worth doing. We then ate lunch at a highly recommended by the locals little place called The Sandbar for lunch and got fish and chips which was the dish recommended. Was good but not as good as it was hyped up to be. Things usually aren't. I think I preferred the fish and chips at Flight Deck in town. We then drove out to the end of the road north of the town. Gorgeous drive with awesome views.

Ketchikan

Fortunately, a friend recommended her friend to us here in Ketchikan and she so kindly drove us around. It was wonderful to see and hear things from a resident who has lived in Ketchikan for 30+ years. At lunch in a wonderful restaurant up on a hillside with a great view. Sorry I don't remember the name of it. We drove out to Ward Lake and then out the other direction. Ketchikan is a rain forest and all the green foliage showed it was. Our day started out foggy and overcast but it all burned off by 10:30 and we had a gorgeous clear blue sky day. Great since our last time to Ketchikan it poured.

Victoria

Took a pedicab ride around the downtown area, residential areas and Beacon Hill Park.

Was enjoyable and fun with a great tour guide but it was pricey. Was fun to do once but because of it being pricey I would do something else the next time. We took a water taxi to fisherman's wharf and also saw the quaint houseboat town. Was another beautiful, clear warm day.
