We sailed on the Norwegian Gem from NY the week of May 18, 2015. I love Norwegian for cruising. The crew, all of them, treat you like you're the 'only' vacationer. The food choices are MANY, and everything I ate was very good. The mini suite we had was colorful and beautiful. The Events were well organized. The daily barbecues by the pool were wonderful,
I can't say enough about Norwegian. Of course, there's always "ONE"! It's nearly impossible to get a drink in under 10-15 minutes...when it's empty mind you. The bartender, of color, at that bar, is an unfriendly, unsociable individual. He never smiled or spoke to any of the bar customers. He is not bartender material and shouldn't be anywhere near the cruiser's. He doesnt acknowledge whether or not he's heard you ask for a drink...you have to just wait and maybe you will be handed what you ordered...OR...maybe not. Never a greeting or a smile. This wasn't a bad day, he was the same every day.
I can't let one lousy attitude make me knock Norwegian. It was a great trip. I especially want to thank the most wonderful cruise director, DN Dan and the Assistant C.D. Luz. They were amazing, I've never experienced better. The energy level of both of them was crazy!! And, funny, just unbelievable. They were always out in front with the passengers. You felt like they were your friends. Just LOVE them both! We will be going again next year. Wonderful!
We did not take an excursion although some of the offers by the locals sounded great and were very reasonable. We just shopped around. Unfortunately, it rained for a little while, but it didn't stop us!
We did not leave the ship in Florida this time. We took part in some ship activities and of course, the pool. It was still a great day. It was a beautiful pool day and we took full advantage of the extra room on the ship, with so many getting off.
I live in Brooklyn, so just had to get to Manhattan to set sail. There was no excursion for us there. The embarkation was orderly and swift. Plenty of agents to get you through.
