We just spent 28 days aboard a wonderful ship, the Regal Princess. Arrived in Ft Lauderdale the day before, took the motels shuttle to the cruise port (midday) and it took us only 40 min. from being dropped off by the shuttle until we were in our room, and we did not have priority embarkation. GREAT! This was our 9th cruise and our 3rd cruise with Princess, all Transatlantic, “Ruby”, “Emerald” and now “Regal”.

This ship has a lot going for it, even with over 3000 passengers it never really felt crowded, as we could always find someplace, very comfortable, to sit and relax. Comfortable chairs, sofas, etc. in most all of the public areas. Staff was great and always had a smile and a cheerful greeting. There were lots of activities for all, with good music, shows, programs and entertainment. Negative; would be, why oh why does the music have to be so loud when in the Piazza? I am a musician for over 50 years and I would never let the balance of the band or the sheer volume of the recorded music be so unbalanced. The recorded music playing on deck 5 it was so loud that on deck 7 away from the center, back in a corner of Crooners you could not talk with your neighbor, you had to yell. If you were on deck 5 forget about trying to visit if a band was playing or there was recorded music. Some of the live bands, not the Randy Heddon Quartet, including the Regal Band the drums were so loud it drowned out the vocals. The Library was a disappointment, very small, no one in charge, very disorganized, and when you’re at sea for 5 days at a time a lot of people “tried” to use the library.

Dining: We had anytime dining and only 1 night (the 2nd night) in the Symphony did we have to wait. I read comments on waiting forever, well think about when you are going to eat and DO NOT go just as a show is getting out, or as the doors 1st open. After the 1st wait time we chose our dining time better and walked right in every time with no wait and still went to the shows, sometimes early sometimes late. We were usually done in about 75 to 90 minutes. Service was excellent. Food was very good but not great, the biggest problem was in the Horizon Buffet with the temperature of the food. Most often it was just warm, not hot and many times it was cool. Not good! Food was OK just bad temperature. Excellent variety. I did like the hand washing station outside the Buffet area on deck 16.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Balcony

Cabin D4

We had a aft facing cabin on deck 15 and had a large balcony, I estimated to be (15 by 12 ) for 180 Sq. ft. The 2 center aft cabins on deck 12, 14, 15 all have larger balcony’s, just as deck 9 and 11 have some roof over the aft balcony where the other decks have no roof. Just the way the ship was designed. Yes there was a little soot some days but never enough to stop us from using the balcony, plus our room steward kept it clean. Room steward was great. It all depended on what the wind was doing in port or when travel was very slow, and the wind was just so. Cabin had plenty of storage, closet space, desk, loveseat. Next time I’ll choose a balcony with a roof for use when in a slight rain, or when in the hot sun.
