Hello! Thought I'd post my first review ever of my cruise experience onboard the Celebrity Soltice to Alaska on May 8th, 2015. Here goes nothing!!
We arrived at Pier 91 with high hopes, smiling faces, and a pocketful of kryptonite...
Embarkation was very smooth. The line for priority was shorter but not much different than when we arrived around 11.45. There was a slight delay with our kind hearted representative helping out other colleagues, but it really was super smooth. The welcome wine as we arrived on deck was a nice touch. It was the shape of things to come. I think, all in all, the boat initially seemed quiet then with the exception of the entry area and the buffett. Not sure when lunch started, but maybe we should have gone there early instead of gawping at all the ship had to offer!
The room was perfect for our needs. It was a nice sized, average balcony for our wildlife spotting, complete with a table, chairs, and footstools. No noise from overhead ever. We received canapes whenever we remembered to order, a bottle of pop and and ice bucket on arrival, and the much loved pillow chocs every night. No sign of the flowers. Our attendant and assistant were visible and friendly and gave us great help. TV system was pretty good, and you could watch movies, and even view your account and photographs from the cruise.
Super, happening city. Saw a number of attractions including Chiluly Gardens, Gates Foundation. Really enjoyed Pike Market, watching them chuck all the fish around.
Happening town. So much to do here it's hard to make a choice. Medenhall would be worth seeing for an extended period of time, but we made do with combining with whale watching. Ate some great crabcakes here, and managed to squeeze in seeing all the old architechture of city hall and the old time hotels/salons.
Brilliantly well preserved gold rush town, which is also very easy to get around. Bus will take you to farther out spots (Cemetery and waterfalls) Most of old buildings are on 1 main street, all pretty close together, and not too far from pier. Take the train ride up the White Pass. Also, go and visit the rangers visitor's center and museum near the main street to experience the history and appreciate the town that little more.
Well maintained and manicured, this is like a little bit of Britain. There are lots of old looking pubs to visit, and the Butchart Gardens arent far away. Some fine examples of old style architecture. Would loved to have spent more time here, particularly in the daylight!
