Sail Date: May 2015

We went on a Rhine Getaway Viking Cruise on May 9 through May 16, 2015. While we had been on numerous ocean cruises up until now, this was the first river cruise we had done. Overall, we generally enjoyed the excursions, rooms, and good food. However, the trip was beset throughout with issues such as poor communication and unsatisfactory decisions that benefited Viking and not its customers. Examples include:

1. We were promised that we would obtain our information packet three weeks before we left for the trip. However, we did not receive it until a week before we left.

2. The day before we left on May 8 for the airport to fly to Basel, Switzerland, we received an email telling us we would be on the Viking Idi instead of the Viking Kvasir. The only explanation given for this change was high water in the Rhine. Other than a change of ship, no additional information was given and we all assumed that the trip would resume exactly as originally planned except for this change in ship.

Cabin Review

Cabin Veranda

Very well presented and comfortable stateroom. However, we feel like we wasted the money for the Veranda, since we rarely could even see out of our stateroom during the day light hours due to our ship being docked immediately next to an adjoining ship most days.
