Sail Date: May 2015

I first sailed on Liberty back in 2009 and it was my favorite ship. I was excited to see it was leaving out of NJ, a short drive from our home in CT, and to a place I had never been before, Bermuda.

I probably will never sail out of Bayonne again. We parked at an off-site parking lot, which was slightly cheaper than the port. It was fine, other than it took awhile to get a shuttle on the return. We were among the first off the ship on the return, but there was a long line of people behind us waiting for the shuttle to take us back to the parking lot. My parents tried driving a rental car from VA, dropping it off at the airport, and getting a taxi. The taxi was a complete rip off. $50 to the cruise port for 2 people and 2 bags and $70 back! Unfriendly and unhelpful taxi drivers at that. Also the clientele of passengers on the cruise ship was completely different from other cruises I have been on out of FL. Loud, unfriendly, and unpleasant passengers. It was noticeable.

There were several let downs when we were aboard the ship. First, the ship is in noticeable need of updating. Chairs in the dining room were worn. Chairs in the theater were literally falling apart. Deck chairs were broken. The ship still seemed clean, just in need of updating. Second, the service in the main dining room was lacking. This was my fifth cruise and usually we look forward to getting to know our waiters over the course of the week. They typically learn everyone's names and are very friendly and attentive. Not on this cruise. They were barely ever around, the service was very slow on several nights, and I didn't even get a refill of my water on several nights. Usually they go above and beyond and ask if you want more of anything or want to try anything new. Not this time. And to top it all off, since our last cruise in December, RCI has stopped serving lobster on 5 day cruises now. We were very disappointed, especially since we didn't learn this until we were on the last day of the cruise. No baked Alaska either.
