Our cruise experience on Norwegian cruise ship the Breakaway to Bermuda. This is not meant to dissuade any one from taking this cruise on this ship but merely to be used as a guide to a successful vacation. Let’s start from the beginning. We chose to have our trip planned by a travel agent rather then doing it ourselves on line, but believe me we would have gotten the same deal had we not used the agent except for perhaps getting priority boarding which allowed is to get on a little faster than those without this feature. It did not help us in getting all our bags delivered to our state room in a timely manner. All our bags were together when they went on the ship but not delivered to the rooms together. My wife got her bag about one hour after we got into our cabin at about one pm. My bag found its way to the cabin around 5:45 pm. Our friend one of seven traveling together with us had the same problem. While on the subject of the number of people in your party plan well in advance for your dinning pleasure or it may not be as pleasurable as you want. We went to the Manhattan main dining room and asked for a table for 7 and were told that it would be awhile and we were given a remote device that would signal us when we could come in. The place was jammed with hungry travelers. But to our surprise a waitress came out to announce a table for a party of 7. It was only until after we were seated did we find out that we were not the party of seven that was being called for. The waiter took our drink order and returned to the table 25 minutes later with our drinks. One of the wines brought was unbearable to the taste. A Pinot Greco that was sour and stale. It took two additional attempts to get one that was all right to drink. The second night we tried the Savor dinning room. When I asked for a table for seven the hostess said We only have tables for two. I said that was ridiculous and unacceptable. She gave me a smug look and suggested we go to the Manhattan. I told her to get the maître d . In a few moments he appeared and before he had a chance to say anything I let him have both barrels and I shall not repeat what I told him but he apologized for the misunderstanding and had our table by a large window ready. He gave me his card and told me to call him on his personal number anytime to make reservations. The waitress was hey pleasant and everything was perfect. We tried the next night at the Tasting dining room and they again said they could not seat seven however the same maître d saw us and came across the hall to usher our group in to his dining room and again the wait staff was exceptionally pleasant and the food was very good. So if you are looking for a good dining room on the no cover charge list try the Savor. As for the buffet we chose the Garden buffet each time either for breakfasts and lunches. The food is good and there is a wide variety however their layout is not so efficient. They have several omelet stations but they are combined with the precooked eggs so if you only want scrambled eggs and or bacon, sausage or potatoes you have to wait until the passengers wanting custom omelets to get them could be 5 to 10 minutes, not good. But hey you can’t have everything right, wrong you should when you paid for it.

The entertainment provided is great IF YOU PLAN AHEAD AND RESERVE TICKETS even before you sail. We were only able to get tickets to on show. The main headliner was sold, out by the end of the first day at sea, the day we sailed. All of the bars and cafés have entertainment and it’s all good but again the key word is CROWDED get there early to find a seat. There is always something going on in the Atrium on deck 6 amidships music, games whatever, and again if you want to see it get there early. The noise levels at all gatherings everywhere on the ship is extremely high. I am hard of hearing and even so it bothered me. And the more people drink the louder they get. So if you are looking for serenity and peace Don’t go on this or perhaps any cruise that has over 4000 guests. Funny as it may sound the most common complaint I heard was to many kids to many people. Dinner in the Manhattan we walked right in sat right down and had a very nice dinner as well as a pleasant waitress experience. Went to the casino for an hour or so and got a few drinks and headed to deck 15 outside to wait for the fireworks show that was scheduled to start at 10:45 pm. It was breezy and damp after a heavy shower. The deck was crowded as expected. At 10:55 an announcement made by Julie the cruse entertainment director said that due to regulations the fireworks show was cancelled because of the wind . Lots of grumbling among the bystanders but nothing else to due but go below get a nightcap and head back to our cabin, and enjoy the stars from the open balcony.

Day seven we woke to a sunny and relatively calm sea day. Ate breakfast in the Garden café with Mary and Tom. The dining room was quite full but getting our food was not to bad. Jean read on deck by the pool while I made a return trip to the tax-free liquor store the last time this day of our last at sea hoping to find some Sheridan Black and White Liqueur but non to be found they ran out the day before, you would think they would stock up on it since it is not available in the states.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BB

The cabin was on the small side. cloth storage closet about 15 hangers there was shelves and two draws under the couch. but hidden because it just looked like a front apron and was very very hard to open Balcony very small. All electric was sea card controlled You had to put your sea card into a slot to have the electric turned on and you had to take your card with you when you left the cabin so you could not leave the a/c on or recharge and camera of tablet batteries Also a/c did not work unless the balcony door was closed and locked. no outlets by the bed .only two under the dressing room table. Toile had a hard time to get it to flush Electric switch that took 2 to 10 times plunging to operate found the water pressure very low.
