We took our first cruise on the Epic in 2011. We did the Cruise Rewards on board and planned for a cruise four years later. We just returned from a May 10-17 sailing on Norweigian Breakaway and we had the time of our lives. It started out rough because we chose to take a bus through the night to New York. We couldn't sleep so that was a bad choice on our part. Not NCL's problem at all...but they surely made up for it upon our arrival! The check-in and embarkation process was so quick and smooth and FUN! Thought the weather was a bit chilly (no fault of NCL), we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Breakaway has all the same bells and whistles as the Epic with a few nice additions such as the ropes course and Manhattan Room Supper Club. My husband and I are in our early 30s and we found that we were a bit younger than most people on the boat (average age seemed to be mid 40s) but we had no problem finding new friends and really enjoying ourselves. The crew bent over backwards to ensure that we had a great time. Our room steward Clifford was the most friendly person ever, always greeting us and inquiring about what our plans were for the day or asking us about our adventures. We felt like he was part of our family by the end of the trip. He took excellent care of our room and had extreme attention to detail. The bars on the Breakaway are great. We especially loved the Spice H20 area for adults only. It was just a great place to relax and enjoy mature conversation without the noise of little ones running around. There were also great parties in this area. We especially enjoyed the 70s party! We spent a lot of time at the outside bar at Maltings as well. Last but not least, we loved the poolside bars and hot tub area. We spent quite a bit of time here and Anto was the best bartender on the boat and could be found here. We had the pleasure of sailing with Anto on the Epic 4 years ago and were so happy to see him again. He provided excellent service. We wish the poolside area would have stayed open a little later each night, but we understand that at some point the crew needs to prepare for the following day. We wish the ultimate drink package had been included in the cost of our cruise like so many of the other couples we met on the cruise or that the price had been lower, but we still enjoyed ourselves in that respect. My husband was a huge fan of the Sabrett hot dog cart that came out each afternoon with authentic New York hot dogs! I really enjoyed the Manhattan Room Supper Club. It was nice listening to great music and being able to enjoy a nice meal together without having to pay the extra cost of one of the specialty restaurants. The food was very good. The activities on board were fantastic! We actually didn't do too many of the shows besides the Second City, which we really enjoyed. However, we participated in a lot of the game shows and events run by the activities crew and had so much fun! The time in Bermuda was excellent as well. Bermuda is so different from other cruise destinations - no solicitation, no dockside crazy bars full of college students, etc. It really is a place where you feel you are escaping everyday life. I think it suits the older cruiser (30+) much better because it is so relaxing and beautiful. We cannot wait to return. Getting around the island is convenient but eating/drinking there is very expensive. Fortunately, you can return to the boat for meals throughout the day. I'd also encourage you to stop into a grocery store to pick up things for a picnic instead of eating at the expensive beachside restaurants. The people of Bermuda are wonderful and there is a lot of history and charm there. It's also a great trip for the adventurer. My husband and I loved climbing all of the rocks at Horshoe Bay Beach in bare feet. Just be careful! We've never cruised with another cruise line but we can confidently say after our second cruise with NCL that we don't plan on ever switching. They do a remarkable job and we enjoy ourselves so much. Don't hesitate - book it!

Cabin Review

Family Inside Stateroom

Cabin I2

Our cabin was wonderful. It was perfect for my husband because it was ADA and my husband is 6'7" tall. The showers are always too short for him but he could actually stand in this one or sit on the seat and use the detachable shower head. The room was nicely furnished and spacious. We were very comfortable and will request this room again if we ever take this ship again.

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

It was very easy to get from the bus station to the port. We had little luggage and chose to walk. It was about one mile and we stopped for breakfast halfway. Next time we do this cruise, we'd like to get to New York earlier to enjoy the city for a few days before the cruise.
