This was our first river cruise and we had a great experience with AmaWaterways. We particularly enjoyed our land excursions with knowledgeable and enthusiastic French guides, including Giverny and Monet's Garden; Pays d' Auge (pastoral Normandy); and Auvers-sur-Oise (where Van Gogh lived at the end of his life). The crew members on the AmaLegro were great....friendly, yet professional and responsive. The meals were plentiful and delicious. The evening entertainment musicians were varied and talented. Our cabin was attractive and well-maintained. We loved watching the views along the Seine of the cities, the small villages and the house boats.

Near the end of our cruise, an announcement was made that the AmaLegro could not return to Paris because the rain had caused the level of the river to rise and the ship could not pass under the bridges going back to Paris. However, we were still able to do all of the planned excursions. Instead of returning to Paris, we docked in Rouen and AmaWaterways made plans for buses to leave every half hour to take us to CDG airport, arriving 3 hours before our return flights. Other buses took passengers to the Paris train station or to Paris hotels. When we arrived at CDG, an AmaWaterways representative met us to be sure that we arrived on time with our luggage. This is just an example of how well planned and executed every detail of our cruise was handled by AmaWaterways. We're happy, too, that we booked our round-trip airport - ship transfers in advance with AmaWaterways, letting them take care of all of the logistics.
