This was our first cruise to Alaska and our first cruise on HAL. Over all it was a wonderful experience, one that I will never forget. We cruised out of Seattle. Flew in the day before. We used a taxi service to get to the hotel. We were at hotel, downtown Seattle, checked in, bags dropped off by 11:15 am. W stayed at the Grand Hyatt and had a very good stay. The hotel is about 6 blooms from Pikes Market. We had a wonderful lunch at Ruth Chris Steak House then walked down to the market. The next morning we woke then decided to walk again down to the market place and had a light breakfast at a local restaurant then back to hotel to get ready for our prearranged taxi ride. We used Eastside for Hire. They have very competitive rates and you can prearrange all of your pick put times. We arrived at the cruise terminal around 10:30am, we toted our luggage over to the drop off point ourselves, and we checked in around 10:45ish. There were probably a 100 people already checked in. The terminal is comfortable enough. We were allowed to board at 11:45am. We went straight to our port side balcony on deck eight. Nice size cabin, very nice size bathroom with a full size bathtub. The cabin bedding was luxurious. Lots of storage space, Drawers under foot of bed & under couch. The furnishings looked a tad bit dated, but very clean. Had a mini frig. Used it for our water & wine. We then went to lido for lunch. Over all I thought that the food on this cruise was a much higher quality then on some of the recent cruises that we have been on. The lido food was always fresh. A lot of made to order items that you can request. The only place that I thought that could improve would be deserts. But, I am not a big desert eater anyway. All of the public area were well maintained. We attend several of the cooking demonstrations and found them very enjoyable. Didn't attend many of the productions in the Vista lounge, only one, and did not care for it. We did go the the BB Kings Blues Lounge and enjoyed the band there. Went to the piano bar one evening and enjoyed it. We had several dinners in the MD, like I said thought that the food was better than the last several cruises that we have been on. We log ed the ports of call, Juneau, Glacier Bay, Sitka & Victoria. My favorite was Glacier bay. We were up and out of the cabin by 7:15 ish and on deck 10 outside with our camera and binoculars. We bundled up and stayed outside until 11:30. On deck 10 you can go inside the Crows Nest to get warm if needed. WE then went b ack to our cabin and ordered room service. It took a little while to come, but we didn't care as we were outside on our balcony watching the scenery. Room service food was always tasty and fresh. The service time seemed a little slow, but who cares, we are on vacation. We did several excursions thru HAL. All were enjoyable. Probably a little over priced but DH prefers booking thru the cruise lines for security reasons...All of the excursions were good. We did not use the gym or spa. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We choose the do self debarkation as we didn't get our luggage out the night before. I woke up early, had a nice breakfast at lido while DH slept late. By the time I got back to the cabin the Capt was announcing that all self debarkation passengers could get off of the ship, we grabbed our luggage and were off by 8:00 am and headed to the airport. It work out that we were able to catch an earlier flight. This was a perfect vacation for us. We have been on 9 different cruises with RCCL, Princess, Carnival & Norwegian all to Caribbean, one to Panama Canal. This was my favorite cruise. The scenery is magnificent. We saw wildlife and untouched forrest and mountain tops. I will cruise to Alaska again. I wish that I would have cruised to Alaska sooner. Our age demo 55-60 (no the young side) very active. Since we sailed early in the season there were few children on the ship. Loved sailing out of Seattle and loved sailing to Alaska.
