As a first time cruiser I had a lot to look forward to and was thrilled for the experience. We arrived early at Pier 88 in NYC and I was impressed by the organization and ease of check-in. The wait after that to was reasonable and walking up the gangway to set foot aboard the ship was quite exciting. Once inside, it felt like a Las Vegas or Atlantic City casino/hotel: beautifully appointed and spacious in the public areas.

Our stateroom was on Deck 9 with a balcony. Being as I was third person, it became apparent that my presence made the room feel quite confined. All-in-all though, I was impressed with the closet space and our room steward Dinesh was FABULOUS and helped us get and remain as organized as three middle-aged women could be under the circumstances. He was always pleasant with a kind, innocent demeanor, and although he was too old I had a desire to adopt and protect him.

We explored the ship after checking our our stateroom and wound up near the gym and spa where we were bombarded with hard-sell professionals plying their services. It was interesting to see a plastic surgeon on board offering free consultations and Botox and Restoril treatments for a hefty sum. What really got to me was the amount of WOO being plied to gullible and unsuspecting travelers. Acupuncture and Detox programs were pushed tag-team style by overzealous but always polite providers. When challenged about the science and lack of efficacy of their programs, they deflected like the brainwashed hawkers they were. So within hours I saw a cruise as a place for ignorant travelers to be bilked for cash over spurious claims. This was disappointment #1.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BC

Two double beds and a couch for a third person (me). It was small, but adequate. Bathroom shower was tiny but designed well so you could put your foot up and reach everywhere. The room steward Dinesh was awesome! He helped us get organized, provided us with whatever towels we needed and even made sure to check on the one of us (not me!) that got seasick on our way back to NYC.

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

The port at Pier 88 adequate and the process was impressively organized and efficient. This was surprising. I was glad to see a coffee vendor there as we left home early and needed some caffeine!
