Since we were on the third leg of this new ship's first run, we were prepared for some confusion. The CSAs in Vikings corp office weren't kept informed of itinerary changes and several of Viking's policies were ignored (this was a good thing) once we were on board....but Viking's corp office DID prove to us that they valued our business....for example, our huge disappointment over the itinerary was placated with a generous discount on a future cruise. No other premium line we've sailed with did anything other then tell us they reserved the right to make changes.
Now back to the Viking Star. It's beautiful, casual, well layed out (for the most part). The production show in which the singer/actor flew across continents was amazing...the media aspect was high tech and worked soooo well. I do wish they had a better variety of daytime options..dancing the cha cha and listening to scientific lectures weren't for us...on this leg, neither of the two cinemas worked at all and at times tv reception was spotty...internet, which was free, had some issues but worked well enough most of the time. Food was excellent everywhere...I did miss pizza not being offered....
Some of the included tours, like Barcelona, should have been longer and allowed more opportunities to get off the bus. Embarcation and debarcation were a breeze. The staff was fantastic..they were almost giddy to be on board..service rocked the great majority of the time..one waiter didn't know dressing was normally served with salad nor did he know we Americans don't eat plain hot dogs...he told me the main dining room doesn't even stock relish...but all the rest of the staff had their stuff together and I was really impressed with the Activities staff member who noticed a chair not pushed back under a table as she walked by, and stopped to take care of it.
Didn't know a card needs to inserted near the door for the ac and bathroom light to work. Nice shower! Walk in..little hard to adj the water temp..Heated bathroom floors..adequate storage..comfy bed..room service was always prompt offering a good selection. A squeak in the ceiling drove us nuts for a few nights then stopped. Suggestions: put TV on a hinge so it can be better watched from the seating area and add CNN to the offerings.
