This is our 12th HAL cruise and our second time on the Veendam (2010 cruise to Bermuda being our first time being on this ship).
My wife, daughter and I just spent a great week aboard the Veendam on the 7 day Bermuda cruise. I must admit that I was worried about this cruise based on the number of negative reviews that I have read on here. However I was overall impressed with the condition of the ship, the food and the service. The ship was well maintained, clean, with new carpeting in stairways. The only negative I could find was the condition of the ship’s elevators. They were dinged and dented and scratched in some places.
The advantage of this ship is that it docks right in downtown Hamilton, versus at the Dockyards (we were on Celebrity last year that docks at the Dockyards, and being in downtown Hamilton was much more convenient).
Nice size for the three of us with a huge balcony (larger than most inside staterooms with two lounge chairs plus a large table with four chairs). The suite also had a nice powder room area with a sink. We missed the separate shower stall and extra sink in the bathroom that are on HAL's larger ships, but ok for a week.
