While it was our first TransAtlantic cruise, it was not our first cruise. The live entertainment in the theater each night was outstanding, very talented performers. The staff have been trained to provide exemplary service, and our cabin steward quickly ascertained our habits such that while we rarely saw him, his presence and attentiveness were ever present.
While we can understand the complexities of serving 3,000 diners in a short period of time, the general quality of the dining room food left something to be desired. We routinely took breakfast in the dining room or in our stateroom, Celebrity could NOT do hash brown potatoes for breakfast.
We did not partake of the Speciality Dining Option, but our dinner companions who did were never convinced that the quality of the food warranted the extra cost. Once we accepted the fact that we were being served 2-star entrees, and focused on the comraderie at our table, dinner became a favorite part of our evening. A special "shout out" to Alvito and Clint who probably fussed more than we did when the entree was under/over cooked.
Typical cruise ship space, any amenity we asked for, comfortable sleeping accomadation
The port was very accessible and easy to disembark an re-embark. We chose and another couple chose to engage a private driver to take us inland to the lakes and a village. We spent far less than a ship excursion, and saw and did as much as we wanted.
Again we bypassed the onboard offerings and had arranged a private driver to show us around the city. Lisbon is a very warm city, more so because Duarte, ( our driver/guide) acted more as a proud host of his city. We will return to Portugal at some time because of our experience that day.
Cadiz is a very tourist friendly city. The Tourist Information Services provide several walking tours facilitated by colored markings on the streets and clear maps that allowed us to wander and explore.
By the time we docked in Malaga, we were "cruise weary" and anxious to start the reason for our TransAtlantic crossing, our planned tour of western Europe. If it had been our choice, we could have skipped this port in favor of passing by Gibraltar in daylight instead of at 1:00 AM
