Sail Date: May 2015

We were on the May 7th to 17th sailing aboard the NCL Pearl to Alaska and really enjoyed it. This was my 10th cruise, (2nd with NCL) and my husband's 7th, (1st with NCL). We arrived in Vancouver, BC a day ahead and stayed at the Century Plaza Hotel and Spa. It was about a 30 minute cab drive in traffic from the airport to the hotel. The cab was $31.00 which we were told is a flat rate for all cabs from the airport to downtown. We got a great price and it was close to the port and was within walking distance of shopping, restaurants and some sightseeing. It's across the way from a hospital so it was a little noisy but since we were exhausted, we hardly noticed. It was a 15 minute cab ride to the port with traffic. Overall I give the hotel a 4 out of 5.

Embarkation was fairly standard. We arrived around 11:30am and the whole process took approximately 1 hour. Some people complained to no end about this but again, it was fairly standard and the long line moved as quickly as in any other port we've been to. Once on board, we looked around a bit and then headed to Summer Palace for some lunch and sat with people that just so happened to be on our CC roll call. Small world! The food, service and company were excellent. Try the watermelon salad! YUM!

Cabin: We were in a mini suite on deck 11, 11058. It was bigger than what I expected with a nice size balcony and room enough for the 2 of us. The storage was fairly ample for our bulky Alaska gear. I would imagine those heading to the Caribbean would find the storage more than enough. The bed was very close to the closet making it somewhat cumbersome to use but I got the hang of it. The room always felt dark. The walls are a faux wood paneling and the carpet has a loud neon colored design. It made everything appear orange and dark. Our room steward, Sebastian was very nice and worked fast to get our room cleaned every day. We only got ice on the first and second day and after that, we received none. We had to ask which isn't a big deal. The room wasn't as clean as what we've experienced with other lines. The towels seemed dirty and smelly and there were hairs and mold in the tub. The room was also very dusty and the closet and cabinets were loaded with fingerprints. The inside of the closet had dust bunnies and lint in the corners. It was a bit of a letdown. I brought Lysol spray and Clorox wipes as per the suggestion of other travelers mostly due to noro-virus so I used them to clean up the room a bit.
