I chose this cruise for the itinerary. Three of the five ports of calls I had not been to before. My husband and I enjoyed all the ports. We can't, however, say the same for the ship. Since we'd cruised with Celebrity before, I chose to ignore all of the poor ratings about the ship posted on Trip Advisor. But after boarding the ship and seeing firsthand how dark and dated it was I knew I'd made a mistake. But I was determined to make the most of our vacation. (Side note: Since the ship is so dark on the inside, you should seriously consider turning up the lights while the ship is docked.)

DESIGN FLAWS

The Summit may have been a beauty when she entered service 14 years ago, but she is sorely lacking in asthetics and appears to be poorly maintained. We observed plaster chipping from the ceiling near the elevator glass wall; dirty windows, worn out carpet in the dining rooms, blobs of gooey caulk surrounding the window sills with mildew on them; filthy lounge chairs, hot tubs that never really got hot, toilets that didn't flush, steam rooms with no steam, broken faucet handles, and the list goes on.

Aqua Class

Tiny, but clean.

Port Reviews

San Juan

Stayed at the Ritz Carlton overnight after our cruise. The Ritz was fabulous. We ate dinner and breakfast at a little mom and pop-owned restaurant in walking distance to the hotel, which the concierge recommended. The food was excellent.

St. Maarten

We did not do an excursion. Instead, we hired a taxi to take us to the French side of the island, where we spent the day at an all-inclusive hotel. Time and money well spent!

St. Thomas

We did not take an excursion. We'd been to St. Thomas before. We spent the morning on the ship, and in the afternoon we got off and took a taxi into town. We ate at a local tavern, shopped the market for about an hour, and went back to the ship.

Antigua

We spent the day on one of the local beaches. One of the best beaches of all the ports. We negotiated for two chairs and an umbrella, and we spent the whole day just relaxing, swimming and soaking up the beautiful scenery.
