We are an active couple in our mid-60s and, from previous reviews, expected a plus-75 demographic on board a tired ship requiring a full refit. After a smooth and uneventful embarkation at Fremantle we were surprised to see many passengers in their 30s and 40s, some of whom were accompanied by their teenage children. We found the passengers to be a cheerful lot; no-one was argumentative or aggressive.

We were happy with our cabin, which was on Deck 11, just one from the stern. We had asked for a queen bed configuration, but were happy with the single beds that were provided, as it allowed for more floor space. The bathroom was as expected, but the shower cubicle was a surprise - reasonably spacious and larger than that on the Allure of the Seas. Our steward, the ever-smiling Enrico was terrific as were most of the staff. We thought the ship was in OK condition, nowhere near the decrepit old tub described elsewhere.

We were happy to be allowed to bring aboard a bottle of wine each and a carton of soft drink. Note for future passengers: The cheapest white wine on board costs $27, and can be bought for $6 at any liquor shop. Passengers can bring on any amount of wine in addition to their one-bottle-each allowance, but it will cost you $15 corkage per bottle. If you and your partner are in the habit of drinking a bottle of wine with your dinner, you are better off bringing your wine aboard and paying the corkage.

Cabin Review

Cabin N

Clean and tidy. The mattresses were a little hard. I think they are ready to be replaced. Pillows were excellent. The bathroom was adequate and the shower cubicle surprisingly spacious. Towels and soap were provided daily, and ice and wine glasses were available on request. The TV was small but OK and the programs acceptable. No problems with the cabin - apart from the noise from the gym.
