We have just returned from our cruise on the Carnival Liberty. Although there were enjoyable aspects of the cruise, there are also issues that occurred which have left us questioning whether selecting Carnival for our first ever cruise experience was a wise choice. These issues have left us very unhappy with our entire Carnival experience.

Upon our arrival at the ship, we proceeded to check in. We were told by the agent that our room (8239) was ready and that we would be taken to it shortly. While we were dealing with him regarding an issue related to luggage lost by the airline, he was interrupted by two other representatives. The three of them left the counter and when they returned about 10 minutes later, we were advised by a second agent that there was a problem with our room (8239). We were told that the room (8239) was experiencing a foul odor and that the room was being taken out of service until the problem could be resolved and that they were looking for an alternative room for us. We were told that it would take about 15 minutes to locate another room. After waiting about half an hour, we were informed that it was going to take a while longer. The agent offered us some complimentary drinks while we waited. Needless to say, it took over an hour of wait time before the agent advised us that another room (2217) was available but that it would have to be modified because it only had one single bed and we required a double bed. We were told that this was the only room available. The agent showed us the room and told us that the room could be modified to put 2 single beds together. I asked if there were any other rooms to look at, but was told that the entire ship was booked and this was the only option. I advised the agent that I found this hard to believe and that this was in essence a downgrade from 8239 to 2217. She apologized but stated again that this was the only option available.

I still find this hard to believe, and feel that this is only the first lie that we were told. Room 2217 was not fit for seniors. At no time did anyone mention that we were right at the front of the ship and would feel the effects of ever wave that touched the ship. We were also never told that we were in very close proximity to whatever mechanical equipment the ship uses in the early mornings when docking. The volume and duration of the motor or engine noises in the early hours of each day were disruptive and on the first day scared us as we did not know what was going on. Remember, nobody mentioned that this was going to happen.
