We had traveled on NCL once before and did not have a positive experience. I was reluctant to go on this cruise but my husband was invited to a Slot Tournament and we were offered a suite in the Haven so we agreed to go. I am so happy that we did. The Getaway was an incredible ship...! The ship was immaculate and the staff was so friendly and professional.

Staying in the Haven was extraordinary and we would do it again in a heartbeat. The area was secluded from the rest of the ship which was a good thing but we missed the interaction with the rest of the passengers. Our butler, Jorge was wonderful and very attentive and our cabin steward, Randolph, was also very accommodating. The concierge, Virginia, was able to handle any and all requests super quickly and always with a smile. The Haven Restaurant is five star. Our breakfast and lunch were delicious, try the Fruite de Mer dish for breakfast and the grilled swordfish burger for lunch....they are both divine! We had the Ultimate dining package but we did eat in the Haven restaurant for dinner and it was fantastic. The ship is easy to maneuver around even though it's large. There was always an activity to do and the Atrium area had kids activities, live bands, movies, everything to keep the ship "hopping"! We ate at many specialty restaurants and our favorites were Le Bistro (try the lobster) and Cagneys (the bone in ribeye...yum). We had a great shore excursion on Tortola. We took a catamaran to Norman Island which is unspoiled and non commercialized. It was a fantastic stop and we can't wait to go back to Tortola. We went to Magens Bay in St. Thomas, a place we've been to many times over the past 30 years. It was as beautiful as ever! Nassau was a port that we could have skipped. We went to the Atlantis to gamble but would probably just beach it next time. If you go to the Atlantis, try Murray's Deli...it is real NY style and the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. Service was with a smile. All in all, I would highly recommend a cruise on NCL's Getaway! We have sailed on every cruise line over the past 30 years and loved Royal Caribbean. We actually had just gone on a family cruise on Royal Caribbean in February 2015 BUT would absolutely go on another NCL cruise in a heartbeat. We just booked two more cruises, one on the Epic in December and the other on the new Escape in March 2016. We are staying in the Haven suites....very excited!

Cabin Review

The Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa with Balcony

Cabin H4

The cabin was fantastic! We were a family of three adults and the extra bedroom and bathroom was great. We spent a lot of time in the living room/dining room area. Our main bedroom was wonderful. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was spacious and heavenly! The Lavazza cappuccino machine was a great amenity. The towels were soft and plush. The only negative is the balcony area is very small. There are two nice wicker chairs with cushions but for the spaciousness of the cabin, the balcony is just OK.

Port Reviews

Nassau

I could skip this port. We've been many times and are really not impressed. We've done the dolphin swim when our kids were small and that was fun. Would rather go to NCL's private island for St. Maarten!

St. Thomas

St. Thomas is a beautiful island. It's incredible to believe that it's part of the USA. Magen's Bay is just divine and is pristine. We've been to this beach for the past 30 years and it's gone from a beach with a small grill to a beach with kayaks, paddle boards, restaurant and bar and gift shop. There are also lockers.

Miami

MIami is a fine port to leave from. It's close to the airport, approximately 15 minutes, and there are transfers to Miami International Airport as well as Fort Lauderdale International Airport.
