BACKGROUND

My husband and I are regular cruisers, with all but one of the cruises we’ve taken together being on Norwegian Cruise Lines. We sailed on the Sun in 2006, the Pride of Hawaii in 2007, the Pearl in 2008, the Dawn in 2010, and the Pearl again in 2014. In 2011, we sailed on the Carnival Dream with my family. We prefer NCL for its freestyle program. Although it’s nice to have the same waiter every night in the MDRs, we prefer to eat whenever we want, where ever we want.

This cruise was a very last minute booking. Due to a tight budget in our family, we had no intention of taking a cruise again any time soon. But when NCL offered their free beverage package deal, we just couldn’t resist. So we booked the shortest, cheapest cruise we could find…the 3 night weekend cruise aboard the Sky. We were hesitant about such a short cruise (all but one of our previous cruises had been 7 nights, the one being 5 nights) but figured with the all-you-can-drink part, that probably would be best for our mid-30 year old bodies.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Oceanview Porthole Window

Cabin OF

We were in cabin 8050. Our last 5 cruises had been in balcony rooms so we were worried that we would be disappointed by the ocean view cabin. But since this was a budget trip, we booked the cheapest room we could and still get the free beverage package deal. And that’s how we got in an ocean view cabin. And yes, it was small. Probably the smallest cabin we’ve ever had. But since we didn’t plan on spending a lot of time in there, it didn’t bother us one bit. Storage was fine for a short cruise. Longer than 4 nights and I think it would be impossible. Three small drawers and a closet with plenty of hanger space. The bathroom was tight but manageable. Plenty of shelves to store toiletries on. My biggest problem was with the doors. The closet doors have to be closed to go in the bathroom. I’d be in the shower and come out, not knowing my husband had opened the closet door and Bam! Or I just couldn’t open the bathroom door at all. But again, nothing to throw a fit about, just something I noticed. Our room steward was great, no complaints.
