As a first time cruiser….EVER, I was not too sure what to expect upon arrival at the port, ship, etc., so here is my experience from my point of view.
ARRIVING AT PORT: I ended up taking Super Shuttle from MIA to the Port of Miami and arrived by 10:30am. Upon exiting the shuttle, I was asked if I needed assistance with my bags. As I didn't know that the representative didn't work for the cruise line, I went ahead and said sure. The port authority workers do blatantly ask for tips, so I figured $5 would be good for one bag to make sure it got on the ship safely.
I later found out that on the NCL Sky, passengers may leave their luggage in one of the bars until their room as ready. Make note that by doing this, it will save you from having to tip a port authority worker and you are able to assure yourself that the luggage made it onboard safely.
I ended up choosing this level of cabin as I wasn't sure what too expect with an inside room and not having windows. While I was hoping for a higher deck, I ended up on Deck 4, which had a port hole window.
The room was nicely furnished and for a single travel, there was almost too much room. Space in the lavatory was adequate, not huge, but did get the job done. A word of advice: if you use a loofa to wash with, make sure to bring one of those stick on hooks you can put in the shower to hang items.
Each day the room was always cleaned very well and the bed was always turned down in the evening. Noise was kept to a minimum the entire time except for port days. As I was close to the anchor and the entrance/exit for port days, you always heard the anchor raising and lowering, which isn't the best wake up call. On port days, the tenders were right next to my window, which could sometimes be an annoyance as I could heard the people on board.
