Having been on a few cruises now, trying out different cruise lines, we are having fondest memories with NCL Dawn. 'Dawn' has great atmosphere, you feel the fun start when you board and balloons are up and staff greet and dance you aboard (Dingo Dave is great). She has a good mix of cruisers aboard both times we've been. A lot of people on deck for the white hot party, which was also fun. We have booked the suite both times on Dawn, first 9502 and now 12502. We enjoy the perks of our butler (Ceasar is fantastic) and concierge, with afternoon snacks delivered daily and breakfast in Cagneys. We had our dining in the specialty restaurants: Cagneys, Teppanyaki, Le Bistro and Moderno. Food is very good throughout the ship and enjoy the dine at your time. The shows and entertainment throughout the week, was also good. We got the Spa package, which is worth it for being quieter in jacuzzi and pool area and for use of the sauna/steam room. We really like this size ship, but shall continue to explore more of what NCL has to offer and try the newer bigger ships perhaps.

Deluxe Owner's Suite

Cabin SA

This suite is very nice. Thought we would miss the balcony, but not so much. The views are great, but would have been nice if windows were a bit cleaner. Also had to clean mirrors on closet doors in lounge as they were grubby. Rest of room was quite tidy. Had no breakfast cards, to leave on door at night; however, we made it to Cagneys every morning instead, which is great. Suite consists of entrance and first door to right is bathroom, with jacuzzi and overhead twinkle lights and TV. Separate 'rainfall' shower head, 2 sinks, shelving and toilet. Plenty of towels and toiletries, lotions, including q-tips, cotton balls and bath salts. Then into lounge with desk, which includes laptop and binoculars for suite use. Futon leather couch, 2 arm chairs and 4 seating table, which had fresh fruit and chocolate covered strawberries upon arrival. You also have fresh flowers, chilled champers in bucket, stocked mini bar of soda, water etc and lavazza coffee. You also receive your choice of 3 liquors from list. You have switches to open and close the black out drapes - do not pull manually! Lounge has TV and DVD player. Then to the bedroom which has its own door and TV. You can black out light completely again with the switch that opens/closes the blinds. Desk has hairdryer and 1 outlet (only - bring extension cord). The closet has drawers and hangers as well as the safe. Temperature was managed well in each room. We enjoyed this room a lot. On leaving we checked out next door (12500) and they did not have remote black out drapes, but hanging drapes and not as many windows. It is narrower but does have an extra room/bathroom for the kids. For us, our preference would be our room as it appeared more spacious and was just for us.

Port Reviews

New Orleans

Bad experience with long queues, especially during festival times. Have to get past Carnival cruise terminal lines to get to NCL terminal. Don't know what the hold up was, but was worst experience at a port to get to our terminal.
