The Western Caribbean trip aboard the Splendor was great. We could not dock at Rotan due to weather, which was a bummer since we spent too much money that extra fun day at sea in the Casino, which by the way after 5 days they finally fixed the hand dryer. (I think they were tired of using 50 sheets of toilet paper to wipe your hands) My fault. Our balcony cabin 9246 was fantastic. Absolutely perfect location and Nuri (sp?), cabin boy was great along with our wait staff, Jose, Edi, and Valentina. These four made our trip. Food was very good, but I am not really nit picky. For the price you pay I do not expect 5 star cuisine. Unfortunately, some people do. Had pizza and ice cream every night prior to going to bed. Never had to wait long and the pizza was very good. The last night dinner Prime Rib was exceptional. As good as any I have had.

Now for the bad. The Mustard drill was way too long. Stood still, in absolute silence way too long. Most other cruises you sit in a lounge. Not Carnival. Standing for 20 minutes waiting to start. A lady next to me was talking to her friend. She was told to be silent. They had not even started the drill. Reminded me of my military days in formation. With the exception of the four individuals listed above, the staff for the most part were not smiling. They are just there for the paycheck. I ended up acting like the Europeans and just told them what I wanted. I.E. rude. Sorry, but you Europeans learn to mind your manners when your away from your home. We Americans know how to say "excuse me", when we bump into or cut in front of others. We only departed port one day on time. People do not understand what be on ship on time means. I love to see good looking women in bikinis just as much as the next guy, but not in the buffet line. Even my wife was disgusted while we were in line with a couple of guys bare chested. Shirts worn in dining area is a no no. Signs are posted. You would think the worthless female Officers watching them would have said something? Nope, just walked away. Formal night? What a joke. I could have worn dress shorts. Drop it or enforce it Carnival. We had the 6 o'clock dinner. Captains table was never used. You would think he could have at least made it to one dinner. Never did see him but that's OK because the wait staff put on a really good show each night.

Every day we were awaken by a 730 good morning call to tell us we were in port and would be ready to depart the ship at whatever time. Hello Carnival. I am a big boy. I know how to use the wake up call on my phone. I don't know about anybody else, but when you wake me up at 730, I stay up. Makes staying up till 1 kind of out of the question. Your TV needs some help and kept up to date. I really do not care about shore excursions for Cozumel two days after I left it. Watched a good movie, Hitched, but really did not need to see it all day long. Variety is the spice of life. The entertainment, Splendor dancers and orchestra were very good. Really enjoyed them. The Comedy club was very good also and liked the adult shows. Of course with Shawn Login, the comedians had plenty of material. (sorry, inside joke, had to be there) Watched a movie at the Dive Inn, Unbroken. Fantastic movie. With about 3 minutes left in the movie, an idiot came over the PA, which turned off the sound and announced upcoming events for the evening. Smart move Carnival.

Fantastic. Best balcony I ever had. No noise what so ever. About a minute walk to pool and get coffee in AM to bring back to room. Highly recommend this room. Great view.
