Sail Date: Mar 2015
Cabin: Large Ocean-View Stateroom

We embarked on 16th March, after spending three days at the Riverview Hotel - which we had gotten a 'superior weekend deal' on - great hotel - not one complaint!! The cruise docked in Malacca, Penang, Malaysia, Phuket Thailand, three days in Rangoon, Myanmar, Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was concerned about the Volendam as I had read some bad reviews but have to say, we had no complaints.

We did use HAL's shore excursions (did not realise Cruise Critic existed until after we had booked them) - next time will check Cruise Critic first. Yes, HAL are overcharging for these tours and, with the exchange rate for the Canadian dollar, added about 25% on to the total charges. We found the cabin to be adequate and the cabin crew excellent. Always a very cheerful greeting on meeting any of them. Dining was again excellent, with our waiter remembering our likes and dislikes, names ect. Embarkation was a breeze (only hold up was a slight delay while the ship was being double disinfected!!) Disembarkation was also extremely efficient. We did enjoy much of the entertainment - violinist, pianist, comedian, singer from Scotland, although did think the Entertainment director could have advertised the upcoming shows a bit more.
